Richard was born in Ireland in 1983 and has worked in Dublin, Washington, London, and Paris.

Following his primary degree he worked with two conservative Washington think-tanks before returning to Ireland to become Research Fellow in the School of Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin. He is now completing doctoral research in political philosophy centered on the thought of Leo Strauss.

Between 2006 and 2010 he was Chief Political Commentator for the Irish Daily Mail, providing political commentary to the Daily Mail newspapers on Irish and latterly British politics. During this period he covered Irish and British general elections and was a member of editorial conference in Dublin and London. Having returned formally to academia in 2011, he continues to publish political analysis for publications in Britain and the United States.

Between 2004 and 2006 Richard was the Director of Ireland’s free-market and Atlanticist think-tank the Freedom Institute. His policy analysis has been published by organisations such as the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre and has been cited by a leading Israeli security studies think tank.

As a foreign correspondent, Richard has covered conflict during the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008 and the EU-led stability operation in Chad, where he was the only journalist on the ground during fighting for the town of Goz Beida. His commentary has been featured by a range of Irish and international broadcasters including the BBC World Service.

Richard is a frequent speaker at universities and public debates. Recent issues on which he has spoken include the Islamisation of Europe, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, US foreign policy, gay marriage, and capital punishment.
